South Carolina Celebrates #GullahGeechee Nation Appreciation Week 2018

The South Carolina coast has been celebrating “Gullah/Geechee Nation Appreciation Week” since it began in the City of Charleston in 2012.  As usual, every county that makes up the South Carolina Lowcountry excluding Horry County has participated in proclaiming the celebration.

The celebration was launched in Florida this year for the first time at the Gullah/Geechee Famlee Day at American Beach.  It will culminate in Charleston with the Gullah/Geechee Nation International Music & Movement Festival™ once again.  This year the celebration is themed “Disya da Gullah/Geechee!”

Tune in to the proclamations from both the city and the county of Charleston, SC:

Queen Quet, Chieftess of the Gullah/Geechee Nation (www.QueenQuet.com) who is a native of St. Helena Island, SC and who was enstooled as the official Queen Mother and head pun de bodee fa de Gullah/Geechee received the proclamations from up and down the coast and Gullah/Geechee TV was there to capture every moment:

Beaufort County

Georgetown County

Dorchester County

Hampton County

Throughout #GullahGeechee Nation Appreciation Week, people are encouraged to support Gullah/Geechee businesses online and in person.  There are also institutions that should be visited and events to attend.  People should partake of these activities at their own leisure:

I attended the Music & Movement festival in Charleston this past weekend. I want to express the deep gratitude and tell you about the deep spiritual effect that this event had on me. Many times during the event there where tears in my ears from the depth of the connection I felt during the performances. Thank you thank you for everything the gullah people did to bring awareness of the culture and heritage to the forefront. The performances were amazing and soul-stirring. But the STORIES and explanations of the HISTORY touched me beyond words. Also, blessings to Queen Quet, the brothers and sisters from Sierra Leone, the dancers, RBM and ALLLLLL the other great people who participated in this event. I want to know what ways I can support the #GullahGeecheeNation

Many and much love & blessings!
