De Gullah/Geechee Nation’s Queen Quet Announces 30th Anniversary “Save the Sea Islands Tour”
“Hunnuh Mus Tek Cyare de Root fa Heal de Tree — Celebrating Gullah/Geechee Land & Legacy”
Multicity Cultural, Educational & Fundraising Tour to Support the Gullah/Geechee Land & Legacy Fund
Queen Quet, Chieftess and Head-of-State of the Gullah/Geechee Nation, officially announces her 30th Anniversary “Save the Sea Islands Tour,” a multicity initiative celebrating Gullah/Geechee heritage and advancing the mission of land preservation, cultural continuity, and community empowerment. The tour, themed “Hunnuh Mus Tek Cyare de Root fa Heal de Tree — Celebrating Gullah/Geechee Land & Legacy,” underscores the enduring wisdom that community restoration and sustainability begin with caring for the roots of our culture and heritage.
This milestone tour will mobilize communities across the Southeastern United States and beyond — engaging partners, descendants, cultural advocates, scholars, and allies in a collective effort to raise vital support for the Gullah/Geechee Land & Legacy Fund. Proceeds from tour events will underwrite initiatives to secure land rights, protect sacred spaces, and expand educational and cultural programming rooted in Gullah/Geechee history and resilience.
“Gullah/Geechee culture is a living legacy — one that has endured through spirit, language, ritual, and stewardship of our lands,” said Queen Quet. “This tour honors where we come from and where we are going. We journey together to heal and uplift our communities — because hunnuh mus tek cyare de root fa heal de tree.”
Kickoff During Black History Month
The tour’s launch aligns with Black History Month 2026, amplifying a season of reflection, celebration, and education. Throughout February, the Gullah/Geechee Nation is presenting a range of heritage-centred events that honor African American history and the sustained cultural presence of Gullah/Geechee people within the national narrative.
Highlights include community gatherings, cultural read-ins, performances, and educational experiences across the Lowcountry and Sea Islands — building momentum for the broader tour. The synergy between Black History Month programming and the tour’s kickoff underscores the inseparable ties between Gullah/Geechee cultural survival, land stewardship, and historical recognition.
