Git Rooted Wit We @GullahGeechee! Support Global Reforestry Part 4
As I took in the passion and power of this global interfaith community and listened to the small collective efforts that were being done, I could immediately see the cumulative impact that this would have if we amplified these ideas of positive global micro-changes on a daily basis instead of simply having folks pay attention to catastrophe and disaster during the news cycle or via their newsfeeds. Instead of focusing on what town flooded today, what would happen if we flooded people’s minds with the healing things that they could do for the earth and how they could leave something that would benefit the next generation through a small action like obtaining and planting a tree and/or donating a dollar to help someone else in the world to do the same?

Penn Center Heritage Days Supported by the #GullahGeechee Community
I expected to travel to Hilton Head to celebrate with the Bluffton-Hilton Head MLK Observance Committee and the Gullah/Geechee Famlee at the “2nd Annual Black Excellence Ball” and embrace Dr. Amir Jamal Toure for receiving the “Social Justice Award” and Mr. Thomas Barnwell, who is a former board member for Penn Center, Inc., for receiving the “Lifetime Achievement Award.” I did not expect to not only receive my award, but also to scream at the top of my lungs when the “Penn Center Heritage Days Celebration” won the “Best Community Event Award.”

Queen’s Chronicle: Healin #GullahGeechee Land & Holdin pun de Culcha
Holdin pun de culcha happens pun de land. If we are taking a stand for land in order to keep Gullah/Geechee cultural heritage alive on it, it requires a significant intellectual, spiritual, and financial investment. So, as much as “Gullah/Geechee Famlee Day” is a fun raiser it is also a fundraiser. We call on all those celebrating “Gullah/Geechee Nation Appreciation Week” that truly appreciate the work that is on-going that allows us to still live on our coast and to keep our culture alive here to contribute to the “Gullah/Geechee Land & Legacy Fund”

Gullah/Geechee Queen Quet Gwine Back ta de UN
Sea level rise and other climate changes impacts are compounding the work to protect the Sea Island environment. Yet, Queen Quet is committed to this work daily. Queen Quet has successfully worked against offshore oil drilling and seismic gun use in the Atlantic Ocean and is actively engaged with global partners in reaching the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals. On September 25th 2015, countries adopted a set of goals to end poverty, protect the planet and ensure prosperity for all as part of a new sustainable development agenda. Each goal has specific targets to be achieved over the next 15 years and the Gullah/Geechee Nation is working to achieve these goals during the International Decade of People of African Descent. With your support, the Gullah/Geechee can insure that we have representation in the major planning and engagement activities to reach these goals and to insure that the Paris Agreement to protect the environment are achieved. So, Tenki Tenki fa hep we send Queen Quet ta de UN one mo ‘gain!
