Queen Quet, Chieftess of the Gullah/Geechee Nation (www.QueenQuet.com) tirelessly works to help keep the Gullah/Geechee culture alive and to protect the environment. Her native culture is inextricably tied to the land and the waterways of the Sea Islands and the Atlantic Ocean. Due to major climate change dynamics, there are numerous threats to the Gullah/Geechee Nation’s coast and thereby to the continuation of the cultural traditions of Gullah/Geechees. Down Caribbean Way in the Gullah/Geechee Nation-Fort Fremont Fundraiser

In order to bring more awareness to the historic Fort Fremont, the Friends of Fort Fremont have held a number of lectures and events. On Friday, September 30, 2016, they will host an evening of entertainment to raise funds for the interpretive center for the site at the Celadon Club on Lady’s Island from 6-8:30 pm. They are inviting everyone out to enjoy the music mixed by DJ Kwame Sha of All Mobile Productions™ (AMP™) as they ask everyone to join them “Down Caribbean Way.”

Queen Quet’s Journey from Human Rights Back to Gullah/Geechee Land
Support the St. Helena Branch Library in the Gullah/Geechee Nation!

As we seek to support the “Fill the Shelves” fundraiser that the Friends of the Library is having to assist the St. Helena Branch with getting more books and DVDs, we are also supporting keeping the current hours of all of the county libraries. To that effect, we will speak out on Monday, March 23, 2015 at 5 pm during the Beaufort County Council meeting and we pray that our supporters and community members will also come to speak out in support of keeping our libraries fully funded and in full operation as well.
