Gullah/Geechee Agroculture & CREATE Day 2024
On Saturday, September 7, 2024, the Gullah/Geechee Famlee and supporters will gather in a a day of environmental enhancement and education on historic St. Helena Island, SC. “Gullah/Geechee Agroculture & Gullah/Geechee CREATE Day” will be held from Noon until 3 pm. The host site will be the “Towne-MacDonald School” site which has been preserved and conserved by the Beaufort County Open Land Trust.

The Gullah/Geechee Sea Island Coalition is proud to host the day in collaboration with Black in Marine Science. BIMS will lead the first St. Helena Island BioBlitz at Club Bridge as part of the interactive environmental education activities for the day. We encourage people of African descent that love the environment to come out and bring their children to be a part of this engaging experience. The debris that is removed from the salt marsh is being used by Gullah/Geechee and African American artists to create art as part of the “Gullah/Geechee Coastal Removal Engaging Artists Through Environment (CREATE)” project. Art engagement is always a part of the day.

De Gullah/Geechee Fishing Association will provide lunch for those that are registered and actively participate.
