
Gullah/Geechee ENERGY Day
The Gullah/Geechee Sea Island Coalition‘s Gullah/Geechee ENERGY Project is an intergenerational capacity building project to raise community awareness about the definition and value of renewable energy sources. It is part of the Gullah/Geechee Sustainability Plan United Nations Sustainable Development Goals work that focuses on ending energy poverty.
This first Gullah/Geechee ENERGY Day will bring to the community a wide range of information on how to reduce their energy bills, renewable energy options and careers in the energy field. In order to receive energy assistance, ID, proof of income, and a recent Dominion Energy bill are required.
Gullah/Geechee Energy Day Participants
Dominion Energy Customer Assistance Team –Stephanie McMillon, Francine Heyward, Mary Ann Wright (others TBD)
“Our mission is to meet the special needs of all customers through meaningful customer assistance programs, value-added services, energy assistance and community outreach.”
The customer assistance team will be on hand to help residents with bill questions as well as share information addressing topics such as medical needs, payment options, hurricane awareness, energy assistance, Energy Share, and Dominion Energy website resources.
Dominion Energy Talent Acquisition – Felita Hicks, Staffing Specialist
Information will be shared about careers in energy, and advice on job qualifications, skill levels, career paths, etc.
Dominion Energy Power Delivery Renewable Energy Program – Kelly Arms
Power Delivery Renewable Energy will share information on renewable energy options available for Dominion Energy residential and commercial customers.
Dominion Energy Conservation Services – Gerald Freeman, Energy Conservation Program Manager
Dominion Energy Conservation Services will educate attendees about EnergyWise programs, giving advice on simple improvements and energy-saving products for your home.
SC Department of Energy and Office of Regulatory Staff
SC Department of Energy – Stacey Washington, Senior Energy Specialist
The Energy Office will share information on a broad range of resources designed to help citizens, businesses, and public entities save energy through greater efficiency, better information, and enhanced environmental quality.
Office of Regulatory Staff (Consumer Services) – Landon Masters, Community Outreach & Communications Manager
ORS Consumer Services will be available to help utility customers make educated choices and understand their rights and obligations as consumers of public utility services.
Office of Regulatory Staff (Equipment Distribution Program) – Takisha Waller
SCEDP will be available to share equipment information with South Carolina residents who have trouble hearing or speaking on the phone. The equipment includes enhanced phones, cell phone accessories, alerting devices and a tablet. People who qualify for the program are provided equipment at no cost to use for as long as they remain in the state.
Beaufort-Jasper Economic Opportunity Commission – Community Services Staff
This community action agency serves Beaufort and Jasper counties and will be available on site to process energy assistance applications (Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program) for those who are income eligible according to the 2021 federal poverty guidelines. Interested persons are encouraged to contact Beaufort-Jasper EOC prior to Gullah/Geechee Energy Day to confirm their attendance and required documents which include:
• Legible state-issued photo ID for the applicant (name and address on ID must match what’s listed on all presented documents)
• Legible Social Security cards for all household members. (no photocopies)
• Proof of income for ALL household members for the past 30 days prior to the application date
• Copy of current electric bill
