Charleston Celebrates the Septenary of #GullahGeechee Nation Appreciation Week!

In many African cosmologies as well as Biblical numerology, 7 is the number of completion. This completion of one phase and entering into another on a higher level is evident in the level of support and commitment shown in Charleston, SC for the 2019 “Gullah/Geechee Nation Appreciation Week.”

“Gullah/Geechee Nation Appreciation Week” was first proclaimed by former City of Charleston Mayor Joe Riley in 2012. That was after the city supported a septenary of “Gullah/Geechee Nation International Music & Movement Festivals™.” This festival which is the official international festival of the Gullah/Geechee Nation was founded by Queen Quet, Chieftess of the Gullah/Geechee Nation (www.QueenQuet.com) and Kwame Sha of All Mobile Productions™ (AMP™) in 2005. They hosted the first one on historic St. Helena Island, SC and then moved the event to Charleston for even numbered years and to other parts of the Gullah/Geechee Nation and the Gullah/Geechee Diaspora on odd numbered years. The event was held in Barbados in 2019 and will return to Charleston again in 2020 as the city celebrates 350 years of existence.

Gullah/Geechee Nation Minister of Information Elder Carlie Towne, Mayor Tecklenburg of the City of Charleston, and Queen Quet, Chieftess of the Gullah/Geechee Nation at Gullah/Geechee Famlee Day at Mosquito Beach 2019.

To show the City of Charleston’s on-going support for “Gullah/Geechee Nation Appreciation Week,” Mayor Tecklenburg attended “Gullah/Geechee Famlee Day” and presented the proclamation in person as seen on Gullah/Geechee TV (GGTV):

The county of Charleston is never to be out done of course! So, as they do annually, they invited Queen Quet to their county council meeting so that the proclamation could be presented publicly and before the media. Many times the proclamation is presented ahead of the celebration, but this time, the county insured that the presentation was part of “Gullah/Geechee Nation Appreciation Week.” Tune een fa yeddi disya pun Gullah/Geechee TV:
