Gullah/Geechee TV & Movie Club Launches with “Reconstruction: The Second Civil War”
The “Gullah/Geechee TV & Movie Club” will begin on Thursday, March 23rd at 6 pm with Part 1 of the documentary, “Reconstruction: The Second Civil War.” Part 2 will be shown on April 27th. Both parts will be introduced by Queen Quet, Chieftess of the Gullah/Geechee Nation (www.QueenQuet.com) who appeared in and consulted for the documentary which aired on PBS when it was first released.

“Black History Month 2017” opened with events honoring the Emanuel 9 in Charleston, SC in the Gullah/Geechee Nation.
Queen Quet Presents “Gullah/Geechee: Africa’s Seed in the Winds of the Diaspora”
Queen Quet, Chieftess of the Gullah/Geechee Nation (www.QueenQuet.com) is an award winning author. She has released five volumes of a thirty volume history series entitled “Gullah/Geechee: Africa’s Seed in the Winds of the Diaspora.” She will present from this series for “Books Sandwiched In” at the University of South Carolina-Beaufort Center for the Arts on Monday, February 6, 2017 at from Noon to 1 pm.
President Obama Declares National Reconstruction Monument in Beaufort, SC
President Barak Obama declared five new United States National Monuments by using the Antiquities Act to “preserve critical chapters of our country’s history” and to “ensure that our national parks, monuments and public lands are fully reflective of our nation’s diverse history and culture.” One of these new national monuments is the multi-site “Reconstruction National Monument” in Beaufort County, SC. It will include the Brick Baptist Church and Darrah Hall which are both in the Penn Center National Landmark Historic District on St. Helena Island, SC as well as the site of the Emancipation Oak at Camp Saxton in Port Royal. All of these sites have major significance to the spiritual and land rights story of the Gullah/Geechee Nation as well as to the on-going battle for freedom and full recognition of the contributions of people of African descent to America.
The Middle Passage, Gullah/Geechee, and SAV
Enslavement advertisements in Savannah marketed the “Black gold/Black cargo” to insure people were aware of the “superior attributes of African slaves from Gambia, Sierra Leone, the Gold Coast, Angola, and New Calabar.” The “slave trade” on River Street in Savannah began as “intercolonial domestic trade” with enslaved Africans being brought from South Carolina to be sold into bondage or to be rented out to clear the land that would become Carolina gold rice and Sea Island cotton fields as well as to be built up to become the city of Savannah.
Gullah/Geechee Knows Emanuel Premieres at Moja Celebration
The Gullah/Geechee Angel Network and Carlie Towne Productions in collaboration with Queen Quet, Chieftess of the Gullah/Geechee Nation and the Gullah/Geechee Sea Island Coalition will bring to the Moja Celebration stage the new dramatic presentation, “Gullah/Geechee Knows Emanuel: A Gullah/Geechee Story” on Saturday, October 8, 2016 at the Pointe Center at 4870 Piedmont Avenue in North Charleston, SC at 7 pm.
“Gullah/Geechee Knows Emanuel: A Gullah/Geechee Story” will take the audience on a journey through the Gullah/Geechee memories of the history of Emmanuel in Charleston, SC from the founding of Emanuel AME by Denmark Vesey and Gullah Jack to the tragic slaying of nine members of Emanuel AME in 2015.
From Juneteenth to Jubilee: A Gullah/Geechee Journey with Queen Quet

Queen Quet, Chieftess of the Gullah/Geechee Nation Continues Gullah/Geechee Healing and Continuation
St. Helena Island, SC native Queen Quet, Chieftess of the Gullah/Geechee Nation (www.QueenQuet.com) celebrated the 17th anniversary of being the first Gullah/Geechee to ever speak before the United Nations in Genevé, Switzerland on behalf of Gullah/Geechees by continuing to work to keep the culture alive. She and the Gullah/Geechee Sea Island Coalition (www.gullahgeechee.net) which she founded in 1996 in order to insure that Gullah/Geechee traditions and landownership would continue celebrated the conclusion of another successful “Gullah/Geechee Nation Volunteer Month” and invites the community to the landmark St. Helena Branch Library to events for healing the community and continue Gullah/Geechee culture.
