Just as the March winds truly blew in dipping temperatures in the Gullah/Geechee Nation, the Gullah/Geechee family stayed warm by coming together at a number of activities. Not only is March, Gullah/Geechee Volunteer Month which takes folks out into the community to help with environmental projects and assist elders and institutions, March was a time for marching on to fight for the coast as well. De Drum Soundin fa #GullahGeechee Nation Appreciation Week!
As Black Music Month came to an end, the sounds of the drum could still be heard throughout the Gullah/Geechee Nation from Jacksonville, NC to Jacksonville, FL. The drums are sounding in celebration as county and town councils from North Carolina to Florida are proclaiming “Gullah/Geechee Nation Appreciation Week” from July 30-August 7, 2016. The theme for the celebration is “A Celebration of Self-Determination.”
Financial Literacy and the Journey of the Gullah/Geechee
“Financial Literacy Month” is celebrated annually in April in the United States and Queen Quet, Chieftess of the Gullah/Geechee Nation called on citizens of the Gullah/Geechee Nation to participate in the month long celebration as an introduction to economic empowerment in the Gullah/Geechee Nation.
