Gather with us in celebrations of art, music, foodways and remembrance throughout the South Carolina Lowcountry of the Gullah/Geechee Nation. Each gathering is an opportunity to support native Gullah/Geechee people who are keeping our cultural traditions alive.

Gullah/Geechee Holy Days Celebration Hosted by Barnes and Noble
The Destiny Community Café in North Charleston, SC is a “Pay-What-You-Can” café that has evolved from not only feeding the body, but to also feeding the mind. In October, they did the ribbon cutting for the “Queen Quet Gullah/Geechee Legacy Library.” This effort is being supported by Barnes and Noble. The West Ashley store in Charleston and the North Charleston store are locations where donations of Gullah/Geechee and Black history books for all ages can be donated for the library via the “Gullah Geechee” Saturday Series for Destiny Community Café Book Drive.
De Gullah/Geechee: Voices of a Living African Legacy
Gullah/Geechee Deckle Edge Panelists are the living embodiment of a group whose collective voice has been marginalized and relegated to storytelling as entertainment in order to keep the south in the manner that others want to know it. This has not allowed the voice of self-determination and cultural continuation to truly be heard until now.
A Celebration of Self-Determination in the Gullah/Geechee Nation!
The 11th Annual “Gullah/Geechee Nation International Music & Movement Festival™” (www.gullahgeechee.info) is themed “A Celebration of Self-Determination.” This culminating weekend of activities for “Gullah/Geechee Nation Appreciation Week” will be held at various venues in the Charleston County area August 5-7, 2016.
