Jayn we een de Gullah/Geechee epicenta fa “Gullah/Geechee Famlee Weekend 2026!” Queen Quet, Chieftess of the Gullah/Geechee Nation and de Gullah/Geechee Famlee culturally invite you to the heart of the Gullah/Geechee Nation for “Gullah/Geechee Famlee Weekend.” We will gather on the grounds of Penn Center on historic St. Helena Island for two days of powerful cultural reconnection, reflection, and celebration—all under the guiding theme: “Hunnuh mus tek cyare de root fa heal de tree!”
On Friday evening, July 24th at 6 pm, we will open the weekend with a spirit-filled gathering rooted in creativity, unity, and cultural expression. This is not just an event—it is a sacred space where the voices of our people, the rhythm of our traditions, and the brilliance of the Gullah/Geechee CREATE Artists Collective come together. You will be able to meet the creatives and the featured artist, Bruce Ingram who will debut his folk art in an exhibition at the Dr. York W Bailey Museum. On Saturday, July 25, from Noon to 3 PM, we continue with Gullah/Geechee Famlee Day! Disya we Gullah/Geechee reunion! If you are trying to connect to Gullah/Geechee roots, you need to take part in this annual culturally enriching intergenerational gathering. Bring de eldas and de chillun fa celebrate who webe!
DJ Kwame Sha of All Mobile Productions™(AMP™), Wona Womalan African Drummers and Dancers, Beth Inabinett and For the Funk of It Band will keep you on the dance floor. So, bring out your drums and put on your dancing shoes!
Gullah/Geechee traditions keepers including sweetgrass artist, Anastatia Ketchens, Quadré Stuckey, and Carolee Holmes Brown will all have handmade traditional Gullah/Geechee items for sale. Books, T-shirts and Gullah/Geechee cuisine from native Gullah/Geechees will all be available.
