Queen Quet of the Gullah/Geechee Nation Tekin Cyare of de Root
Queen Quet, Chieftess of the Gullah/Geechee Nation launched her 30th anniversary “Save the Sea Islands Tour” in February 2026. She has traversed numerous cities during the first two months of the tour and will continue the journey to additional states in April. She invites everyone to join her in person as she embodies the slogan that she was given in a vision thirty years ago: “Hunnuh mus tek cyare de root fa heal de tree.”
Wednesday, April 8, 2026 at 6 pm Queen Quet will be joined by partners of the Gullah/Geechee Sea Island Coalition and leaders of the Gullah/Geechee Nation at the College of Charleston for “Disya Who WEBE: Celebrating Gullah/Geechee Sustainability.” The evening will highlight the on-going “Gullah/Geechee SEA & ME Program” including “Gullah/Geechee CREATE.” Gullah/Geechee books and artwork will be on sale during the event. Queen Quet will put into action the work that she and the Gullah/Geechee Sea Island Coalition members and their supporters continue to do through the “Gullah/Geechee SEA & ME Program.” She will personally host a “Gullah/Geechee CREATE Day” which will include a maritime cleanup followed by a Gullah/Geechee CREATE education and arts session at the site of the Towne-McDonald School on historic St. Helena Island, SC. Queen Quet will continue the journey back to her home state where she will return to the South Carolina State Library in Columbia, SC on Tuesday, April 28th at 6 pm. She will highlight her new books which include her third inspirational book and the first “Gullah/Geechee SEA & ME Cultural Immersion Guide” to have ever been created in world history. She will be joined by the illustrator, Zavia Jenkins that evening.

Queen Quet will close out the month where she began by doing a special healing circle for the SE CRC Symposium entitled “How de Bodee?”—a meaningful exploration of culture, history, and health. This will be followed by a book signing.
