Book & Indigo Art Release with Queen Quet, Chieftess of the Gullah/Geechee Nation

The Bluffton Gullah Cultural Heritage Center is proud to host a landmark cultural event on Friday, October 10, 2025, at 6:00 PM“An Evening of Gullah/Geechee Heritage & Healing”, celebrating the release of Queen Quet’s latest books and a new collection of indigo art.  This event will be part of the “Gullah/Geechee Cultural Heritage Awareness Month” celebration.  Queen Quet will lead a healing circle of reconnection to welcome everyone into the space.

Queen Quet, Chieftess of the Gullah/Geechee Nation is celebrating her 25th Anniversary as Queen of the Gullah/Geechee people and the 25th Anniversary of the Gullah/Geechee Nation.  Queen Quet is proud to include Bluffton as one of her annual tour stops.  Disya gwine be a bless up time fa tru!

Queen Quet is known throughout the world for being the founder of the first organization in world to bear the term “Gullah/Geechee” in its name-the Gullah/Geechee Sea Island Coalition. The Coalition is proud to support and collaborate with the new Bluffton Gullah Cultural Heritage Center where Queen Quet has become the founding member of the “Geechee Society.”  She encourages more people to contribute to this long overdue location for education about and the celebration of authentic Gullah/Geechee history, heritage and culture.

This gathering welcomes the public, cultural enthusiasts, scholars, artists, and community members to an immersive night of cultural immersion, music, art, upliftment and reflection. Queen Quet — Chieftess and Head-of-State of the Gullah/Geechee Nation — will lead the evening of Gullah/Geechee cultural heritage, renewal, and creative expression.


Event Highlights & Program

  • Book Release Ceremony — Queen Quet will unveil her newest works, sharing readings, reflections, and the significance of each in continuing Gullah/Geechee legacy.
  • Indigo Art & Quilt Unveiling — A hand dyed curated collection of indigo-dyed artwork and fashion items as well as handmade Gullah/Geechee quilts by Queen Quet will be premiered. Guests will have the opportunity to purchase one of a kind collectable pieces.
  • Healing & Ritual Elements — Guided by Queen Quet, participants will engage in a libation ceremony and a circle of reconnection.

The Bluffton Gullah Cultural Heritage Center (1255 May River Road, Bluffton, SC) is a vibrant new institution dedicated to cultivating community education, preserving Gullah/Geechee heritage, and celebrating cultural continuity. Queen Quet has long championed the continuation and elevation of Gullah/Geechee culture. Her multidisciplinary work as an author, preservationist, environmental justice advocate, and “Art-ivist” lends deep resonance to this occasion.
