Gullah/Geechee Nation 25th Anniversary Celebration Heats Up This Summer
The Gullah/Geechee Nation has been celebrating its 25th Anniversary since February. This is also the 25th Anniversary of Queen Quet, Chieftess of the Gullah/Geechee Nation. Therefore, activities have been held in all four states already and the journey from Jacksonville to Jacksonville continues over the coming months. Queen Quet is calling for all the Gullah/Geechee Nation‘s citizens and global supporters to come out and be a part of the fun and authentic cultural enrichment!
June will be filled with celebrations of freedom and music since it is “Black Music Month” and the time to commemorate the Combahee River Raid as well as Juneteenth. The series of activities will begin on historic St. Helena Island, SC at Penn Center, Inc. which will be the host site for the 4th Annual “Black Moses Freedom Festival.” The history and wellness event will take place from June 6-8, 2025 and host a variety of workshops and field trips. Queen Quet will open the event with a libation ceremony and tribute to the ancestors on Friday, June 6th at 4 pm. You do not want to miss this opening drum call and cultural procession. There will be buses leaving the Atlanta, GA area to come to the Gullah/Geechee Nation‘s coast. So, bring your drums and come celebrate Mother Moses and freedom!
During the same weekend, Queen Quet will return with Dr. Amir Jamal Toure, Brah Gregory Grant and Sister V to “Juneteenth at the Jepson!” The event is free and open to the public. There will be artistic fun for the children and Gullah/Geechee art and books for sale in addition to the presentations on stage.
Amidst a plethora of Juneteenth celebrations up and down the coast, the athletes from Battery Creek and Beaufort High School are calling on all alumni and Gullah/Geechee Famlee to come together on Saturday, June 21st for an afternoon of fun with a DJ, dance contest, food and an award ceremony on the lawn of the Naval Heritage Park in the Town of Port Royal, SC. The event begins at 4 pm. Queen Quet will be one of several people that will be honored during the 5 pm award ceremony. Bring chairs, tents, coolers and positive energy and enjoy this brotherhood gathering in Beaufort County. Donation is $25 per person.
The party will continue for the 4th of July with the “Juke Joint Jam” sponsored by All Mobile Productions™ (AMP™) and the Gullah/Geechee Sea Island Coalition.
