Harriet Tubman in the Gullah/Geechee Nation featured on “Civil War Spies”
Travel Channel will air a special episode of “Lost Secrets” which was shot in Beaufort, SC in the Gullah/Geechee Nation. Tune in and travel down the Combahee River with the host and Queen Quet, Chieftess of the Gullah/Geechee Nation (www.QueenQuet.com) as they discuss Harriet Tubman and the Combahee River Raid. “Civil War Spies” will air on Sunday, December 15th at 11 pm EST.

Queen Quet, Chieftess of the Gullah/Geechee Nation (www.QueenQuet.com) is among the global leaders that have answered the call to remain in the Paris Climate Agreement and to be part of the climate action. She has made interventions throughout the first week of COP 25 with a specific focus on insuring that cultural heritage is not left out of the climate change, adaptation, and resilience planning that is done globally.
Queen’s Chronicle: Building While Black
I pondered how many things people do not realize. I pondered how many obstacles any Black person that wasn’t going to another country to entertain had to cross to get there-funding, racism, discrimination, prejudice, and xenophobia.
I thought of how each of these people and Dr. Martin L. King, Jr. left this earth knowing that he or she had done what they felt would build up our people and how it didn’t take them leaving buildings here for us to visit for us to recognize that they were for us. They each realized that it would take building the minds and spirits our people up in order for the Black race to be fully built up and sustained. Once the minds were built up, we could return to building the infrastructure of great communities and kingdoms and queendoms as did Sheba and Solomon and the others of Kemet and Kush.
Gullah/Geechee Holy Days Celebration Hosted by Barnes and Noble
The Destiny Community Café in North Charleston, SC is a “Pay-What-You-Can” café that has evolved from not only feeding the body, but to also feeding the mind. In October, they did the ribbon cutting for the “Queen Quet Gullah/Geechee Legacy Library.” This effort is being supported by Barnes and Noble. The West Ashley store in Charleston and the North Charleston store are locations where donations of Gullah/Geechee and Black history books for all ages can be donated for the library via the “Gullah Geechee” Saturday Series for Destiny Community Café Book Drive.

Celebrations of Gullah/Geechee Cultural Heritage and Continuation
“Gullah/Geechee Cultural Heritage Awareness Month” was filled with inspirational and educational events and activities. The citizens of the Gullah/Geechee Nation never restrict the celebration of who they are to one month. Instead, they celebrate the continuation of their cultural heritage all year long. To that end, the month of November is filled with celebrations of this rich cultural legacy.

As I kept searching for links, I knew that the major one would be textiles which in my mind was deduced to cotton. Well, I had no idea just what a connection to cotton I would find! As we left Scotland for Manchester, every city along the way had farms of sheep for wool, but in the midst of them would be mills and names of mill cities. I knew that all of these mills could not have been set up and all of these trains couldn’t be running to them just for wool. This had to be the “cotton pickin’ “ link that I have been searching for. Sure enough it was!

A tear flowed down my eyes on the historic peninsula called “Charleston” or “Chucktown” that was once called “Charles Town.”
These tears were emitting from my soul for my ancestors as I explained to the mayor of this international city how things must go down.
No one in the room spoke, they all simply looked on and listened to what the ancestors had to say through me
As I told them how my feet burned every time I walked the streets of this city.
Banking on Blessed Land: SC needs permanent funding for Land and Water Conservation Fund
Upon the Sea Islands our culture grew in North America, and to that end, these Sea Islands and Lowcountry are part of the Gullah/Geechee Nation. We hold our homeland and the rest of the state as sacred ground and blessed land. That is why we remain here seeking to keep the land quality and the water quality at its optimum. Healthy land and water leads to healthy lifestyles for the people living therein and to that end, we have literally banked on our blessed Carolina land.
