May 2018 Celebrations in the Gullah/Geechee Nation

Now that spring is in full effect, the days are definitely not wasted in the Gullah/Geechee Nation.  In fact, this is the time for continued cultural celebration!   The Gullah/Geechee Nation is hosting events every weekend in May.  Bring de famlee and cum fa jayn we!

Gullah/Geechee Bike & Beauty 2018Saturday, May 5, 2018 10 am to 3 pm at the Dr. Martin L. King Jr. Memorial Park on historic St. Helena Island, SC “Gullah/Geechee Bike & Beauty” in celebration of “Biker Month.”  This is a family friendly celebration at the St. Helena Island Community Market.   Gullah/Geechee cuisine and items will be on sale while folks dance to an R &B mix by DJ Kwame Sha of All Mobile Productions™ (AMP™).  Get your passes here:


WEBE Wakanda: Gullah/Geechee & TechnologySaturday, May 12, 2018 Noon to 3 pm at the Lowcountry Alliance for Model Communities (LAMC) in North Charleston, SC the Gullah/Geechee Angel Network‘s Tech Up Step Up Program host Queen Quet, Chieftess of the Gullah/Geechee Nation presenting “WEBE Wakanda: Gullah/Geechee & Technology.”  This interactive community dialogue is intergenerational.  Bring de chillun and de eldas fa yeddi who webe.  Register here:


Sandy Island 1st Annual Cultural Community EventSaturday, May 19, 2018 9 am to 5 pm Sandy Island hosts its first Community Cultural Event featuring Queen Quet, Chieftess of the Gullah/Geechee Nation and Ron Daise.  Tickets include the boat ride to and a tour of the island.  Go to
