Get Right With GOD-Holy Convocation in the Gullah/Geechee Nation

Many people around the world make new year’s resolutions which folks tend to drop not long after the new year comes in.  In the Gullah/Geechee Nation, many churches have taken to having convocations and revivals during the first full week of the year.  Interestingly enough, that first full week of January often marks the beginning of the Daniel Fast for thousands of people as well.   When I think of these things, I can hear the songs that we sung on the Sea Islands about Daniel and I also think of the lyrics, “Get right with GOD and do it now.”

I am sure that as people reflect on how the climate has changed in the world and what that brought not only during 2017, but just in the opening days of 2018 to areas that never had these types of weather outcomes, many would agree with the words of the song.  However, it takes more than just simply agreeing and singing.  As we also sang on the Sea Islands-“You got to live the life!”   So, the convocation services are a good time to not only fellowship with people seeking to live righteously and that are praying for a blessed year ahead, they are also opportunities to assess ourselves, our directions, and our relationships with GOD.  So, you might want to join in with some of the congregations on the coast and gwine on and git right wid GAWD fa tru!

May GOD bless you.
