Colleton County Council will recognize “Gullah/Geechee Nation Appreciation Week” at its regular County Council meeting at 6 pm in Council Chambers at 109 Benson Street on Tuesday, July 28 at 6 pm. The first “Gullah/Geechee Nation Appreciation Week” took place in the City of Charleston, SC.
The Gullah/Geechee Nation is working on a week of recognition that begins on Saturday, July 25 and culminates on Sunday, August 2, 2015. A number of supporters of the festival will come into Colleton County in order to tour and support businesses during the final week of July. This year they will honor one of the Emanuel 9 each day of the celebration which is why it is 9 days long and not 7 days long. Queen Quet, Chieftess of the Gullah/Geechee Nation (www.QueenQuet.com) will do a special tribute to them during the reception.
The Colleton Museum & Farmers Market will host a reception at 7 pm to follow the Colleton County Council meeting and proclamation on Tuesday, July 28.
