UMOJA-Unity in the Gullah/Geechee Community


Join Queen Quet, Chieftess of the Gullah/Geechee Nation ( for Kwanzaa 2013 as UMOJA is not only defined but celebrated and reflected upon on Gullah/Geechee Riddim Radio.

Throughout the year, the Gullah/Geechee Sea Island Coalition (, the Gullah/Geechee Angel Network (, and the Gullah/Geechee Cultural Heritage Committee of Northeast Florida have worked together in unity and to build unity within the Gullah/Geechee community.   These groups that were founded by and continue to be led by native Gullah/Geechee traditions keepers invite others to be a part of the on-going efforts to keep Gullah/Geechee culture alive and Gullah/Geechee people on their land.

Together these three organizations of the Gullah/Geechee Nation were able to celebrate

Gullah/Geechee Nation Appreciation Week:

Gullah/Geechee Cultural Heritage Awareness Month:

and Middle Passage Month:


At each celebration and commemoration, they also brought together the community and educated them on the history and legacy of the Gullah/Geechee. So, tenki tenki fa de unitee een de nayshun of de Gullah/Geechee!
