On Saturday, August 17, 2013, CJ Cummings took the gold medal in the 105 snatch and set a new Pan American Record! On Sunday, Omar Cummings held up the other end of the bar when he also took the gold and also set a Pan American Record! In 62kg Men weight class, Clarence Cummings Junior won Gold/Gold/Gold with 105/130/235. Team USA Men finished with a Pan American Record (Snatch, Clean & Jerk and Total) and Best Lifter award for Clarence Cummings Jr. CJ became the first male American to set a Continental or World record in over a decade.
On Sunday, August 18, 2013, Omar Cummings took the gold medal in the Men 77kg weight class. Omar Cummings won Gold/Gold/Gold with 106kg/136kg/242kg. He set a new American Youth Record 14-15 Snatch, Clean & Jerk and Total in a 6 for 6 performance with
Clarence “CJ” Cummings Jr, William Cohen (who is from Savannah, GA in the Gullah/Geechee Nation), and Omar Cummings all set new American Records (Snatch, Clean & Jerk and Total) in their respective weight classes. The Cummings Brothers took Gold overall and CJ was the best overall lifter of the competition. Team USA placed second as Mexico took first place and ironically, a territory of the USA took third place-Puerto Rico. They beat out Argentina, Guyana, Chile, Brazil, and El Salvador.
