Environmental Justice and Environmentalism in the Gullah/Geechee Nation

Rev. Jenkins-Boseman at Environmental Workshop

Queen Quet, Chieftess of the Gullah/Geechee Nation (www.QueenQuet.com) interviewed Pastor Brendolyn Jenkins-Boseman, the Executive Director of the Imani Group (www.theimanigroup.org) and pastor of the Abundant Life Fellowship Church in Camden, South Carolina.  The Imani Group serves as a community partner for United States Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA) Region 4 and the US Department of Energy on environmental issues around the Savannah River Site (SRS).  The Imani Group is a partner of the Gullah/Geechee Sea Island Coalition (www.gullahgeechee.net).   During the interview they discuss the difference between environmentalism and environmental justice.

Queen Quet and Rev. Jenkins-Boseman have been working to educate the community about environmental justice issues that they need to actively prepare for as well as those that they need to fight against.  They have begun dialogues about how to provide resources to the community so that they are aware of how to connect to and obtain what they need in order to have healthy and sustained communities.
