Inaugural Coastal Cultures Conference
March 8 & 9, 2013
Hunting Island Nature Center
The Gullah/Geechee Sea Island Coalition, Gullah/Geechee Angel Network, Gullah/Geechee Fishing Association, Gullah/Geechee Cultural Heritage Committee of Northeast Florida and the Gullah/Geechee Sustainability Think Tank are inviting the public to engage in the inaugural “Coastal Cultures Conference” which will be held at the Hunting Island Nature Center on March 8 & 9, 2013. A host of environmental justice and conservation partners have come together to help launch this event which will examine sustaining the Gullah/Geechee coastal communities in the face of climate change and other environmental and cultural sustainability issues that have impacted the Sea Islands of the Gullah/Geechee Nation.
Queen Quet, Chieftess of the Gullah/Geechee Nation will personally host this event. Queen Quet is a TogetherGreen fellow with Toyota & the Audubon. This event will be the culminating activity in her “Gullah/Geechee SEA & ME” conservation fellowship.

2-2:30 pm Attorney Chandra Taylor of the Southern Environmental Law Center presents “Title VI and Community Equity”
2:30-3 pm South Carolina Coastal Conservation League
3-4 pm Savannah River Site Environmental Justice and Community Resources presented by US EPA
4-5 pm Beach Sweep and Oyster Shell Bagging by conference participants

12-5 pm Gullah/Geechee Fish Fry by Gullah/Geechee Fishing Association
12-2 pm Coastal Cultural Connections Circle
2-5 pm Gullah/Geechee Fishing Traditions Interactive Sessions
