At any point in time that my soul gets weary, I find myself asking that question, “Lord why’d you enlighten me without the enlightenment of all my folks” and I get that same answer as in the song, “You set yourself on a quest for truth.” Yes, I am still thirsty for truth and that is why GOD must have put it in my heart to stop simply singing about it and to go on a road trip back to Tennessee.

Gullah/Geechee Nation’s Black Music Month on Historic St. Helena Island Launches with the Sea Island Sounds Celebration

June is “Black Music Month.” This annual celebration in the Gullah/Geechee Nation will begin at the St. Helena Island Community Market with the “Sea Island Sounds Celebration” on Saturday, June 3, 2017 featuring songstresses, Mahoganee and GwenYvette. Both of these dynamic singers will be releasing new songs and the audience at the celebration will be the first to hear them at the Dr. Martin Luther King Park on historic St. Helena Island on that day. The event begins at 10 am and ends at 3 pm.

Beaufort Humanities Festival Highlights @GullahGeechee Culture

Founder of the St. Helena Island based, Gullah/Geechee Sea Island Coalition, Queen Quet, Chieftess of the Gullah/Geechee Nation (www.QueenQuet.com) will provide a special Gullah/Geechee history of St. Helena tour through the landmark St. Helena Branch Library during the Beaufort Humanities Festival. Tours will take place on Friday, June 10th between Noon and 2 pm and are FREE for all attendees.

Come by Here Lawd!: Gullah/Geechee Spiritual Journey

As I stood in the place of the outpouring, “Bethesda Christian Fellowship” on historic St. Helena Island, SC in the Gullah/Geechee Nation, I saw the Spirit of GOD filling the space and moving through the congregation. I could feel the presence of those that are now in the realm of the ancestors that had been a part of this congregation and used to sing, “Come by Here Lawd!”
