HEADS UP @GullahGeechee! Comment on St. Helena’s MLK Drive

…several native Gullah/Geechees emphasized the point that the only way that we are to accept this is if we design in the way that we want it. Queen Quet, Chieftess of the Gullah/Geechee Nation and Founder of the Gullah/Geechee Sea Island Coalition made it clear that there is no sense in building something that is not sustainable. She made it clear that “It is not what you do, but how you do it.” There are resiliency efforts underway for historic St. Helena Island and any projects that are happening at the county level should all be done in a collaborative way that support the health of the island, its environment and the Gullah/Geechee people therein.

Do NOT Let Spaceport Camden Lift Off @GullahGeechee!

#StopTheDrill @GullahGeechee

Please take the time today to write a letter or online comment expressing that you do NOT want any seismic guns used nor any oil exploration and drilling to be done in the Atlantic Ocean due to the fact that this would cause irreparable harm to the homeland and waterways of Gullah/Geechee people.  This will have negative impacts on the Gullah/Geechee fisheries as well as the quality of life on the Sea Islands.  Therefore, you stand in opposition to oil leasing in the Atlantic Ocean.  You can submit the comments and letters here: https://www.boem.gov/National-Program-Comment/  Please cc the letters to the Gullah/Geechee Sea Island Coalition at GullGeeCo@aol.com as well.

De Wata Need We! Protecting the Waters of the Gullah/Geechee Nation’s Coast!

The Gullah/Geechee Nation also finds itself having to fight against oil exploration, oil drilling, and the use of seismic guns in the Atlantic Ocean once again since the US government is attempting to reopen the coast to this.  We have until August 17, 2017 for comments to be entered with the Bureau of Ocean Energy Management (BOEM) in opposition to oil exploration including the use of seismic guns and to oil drilling.  We are calling on all of our supporters worldwide to let them know that you stand with the Gullah/Geechee Nation maintaining its cultural heritage on this coast and to that end, you want the Atlantic Coast kept off of the list of locations for oil exploration and drilling to take place.  You can go to https://www.regulations.gov/document?D=BOEM-2017-0050-0001 to enter your comments.
