Save the Weeping Time @GullahGeechee Historic Community!

There is richness in the community of West Savannah that has yet to be tapped and this shelter is not the appropriate mechanism for tapping that richness. On this 162nd anniversary of The Weeping Time Auction, West Savannah residents are fighting for a fair chance by wanting to use the grounds of this sacred asset to benefit and uplift this community. So, tell Mayor Van Johnson and the Savannah City Council that you stand with the Gullah/Geechee family in West Savannah, GA and you are crying out, but will weep no more! Save Daufuskie Island, SC @GullahGeechee!

In my lifetime, I have celebrated with my Gullah/Geechee Famlee of Daufuskie Island, SC in Beaufort County, SC. I have also cried for and with them as their population dwindled from hundreds to a dozen folks living on the island permanently. Even from the other islands and the mainland, we continued to fight fa we fuss key.

Help Save the @GullahGeechee Communities of Phillips and 7 Mile

Once again, the Gullah/Geechee Sea Island Coalition is partnering with the South Carolina Coastal Conservation League and also with Charleston Moves to protect the Gullah/Geechees of Mt. Pleasant, SC. Unfortunately, the roadway plans depicted in the documentary are now slated to take place. If they are to go forward, Highway 41 would run straight through Phillips and there wouldn’t be any sound barriers to stop the further disruption of the quality of life for the native Gullah/Geechees on family compounds in Phillips and Seven Mile. This would further lower the quality of life for the folks that are able to continue to stay on the property that would remain after the highway is directed through it. The others will have to figure out where they will live since they will be displaced.
@GullahGeechee Battling Exploitation and Seeking Economic Equity

Within less than one month, native Gullah/Geechees have come together much in the way that they did 21 years ago when they stood together to stand on their human right to self-determination. The recent wave of Gullah/Geechee unity managed to get four different white / Anglo owned companies to rebrand their products and no longer use the words “Gullah,” “Geechee” or “Geechie” to culturally and economically exploit the Gullah/Geechee people and their name.
Save Bay Point @GullahGeechee in Beaufort County, SC

Significant public pressure will play a huge role in making government see the folly in participating in the wanton destruction of this beautiful natural resource and continuing to contribute to adding to negative impacts on the sustainability and continuation of cultural heritage and the quality of life of the citizens of the Gullah/Geechee Nation.

#GullahGeechee2020 Fighting Against Coastal Destruction @GullahGeechee

The Gullah/Geechee Sea Island Coalition, the Gullah/Geechee Sustainability Think Tank, and the Gullah/Geechee Fishing Association have stood up against seismic gun testing and offshore drilling for several years. They had to also stand up against new destructionment coming to traditional Gullah/Geechee fishing ground at Bay Point in Beaufort County, SC.
