Queen Quet Releases Gullah/Geechee Novel Duet

“We Journey” and “Gwine Home” are both Gullah/Geechee family sagas set on the Sea Islands. Youths in both books learn their culture and their family stories from the elders in their families while also alerting their family members to the environmental changes happening around them. From battling climate change and sea level rise to hurricanes and destructionment, these two novels bring out how native Gullah/Geechees that are holding onto their land come together to face these issues that continue to encroach on the sustainability of the Gullah/Geechee Nation.

Black Music Month and Gullah/Geechee Sounds

June is “Black Music Month” which gives Gullah/Geechees a specific time to celebrate what they already love to make-music. The Spirituals are the official music of the Gullah/Geechee Nation and the state of South Carolina due to the fact that they were created by native Gullah/Geechees on plantations of the Sea Islands. Not only have these Spiritual sounds been exported from the Gullah/Geechee Nation’s coast and disbursed around the world, numerous genres of music owe their beginnings to being birthed out of those that grew up in the church and sang the Spirituals.
Glynn County Proclaims Gullah/Geechee Nation Appreciation Week 2019
Glynn County, GA continues its participation in “Gullah/Geechee Nation Appreciation Week” by being the first county in Georgia to proclaim the week for 2019. The Glynn County Council presented Queen Quet, Chieftess of the Gullah/Geechee Nation with a proclamation during their council meeting.

The Coastal Empire and the Golden Isles are glowing from the richness of the Gullah/Geechee traditions, heritage, and culture that are being celebrated there again this year. Chatham, Glynn, and Liberty County once again led the way in proclaiming “Gullah/Geechee Nation Appreciation Week” again this year!
“Protect: Coastlines, Guns and Women in the Low Country” Focuses on the Gullah/Geechee

“Protect: Coastlines, Guns and Women in the Low Country” is a pilot episode of a series which highlights stories in local communities around issues of sustainability. These features are produced using film, photography and editorials to examine the challenges around meeting the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in the U.S. The SDGs are a universal call to action to end poverty, to protect the planet and to ensure that all people enjoy peace and prosperity. The Gullah/Geechee Nation is engaged with other nations of the world in insuring that the SDGs are accomplished.
Two Lane Films decided to interview Queen Quet, Chieftess of the Gullah/Geechee Nation (www.QueenQuet.com) and several of the citizens of Savannah, GA and other areas of coastal Georgia regarding their views on a number of topics related to their land and culture.

The Gullah/Geechee Sea Island Coalition is standing with 100 Miles, Protect Cumberland Island, and many other individuals and groups in opposition to this spaceport being licensed and erected. There are a number of negative environmental impacts that will take place that have not been fully examined nor considered in the environmental impact statement. In addition to that, cultural heritage has been completely left out of consideration as Queen Quet, Chieftess of the Gullah/Geechee Nation (www.QueenQuet.com) made clear during her statement at the public hearing.
