Rising Seas, Risings Temperatures and Rising Movement on the Sea Islands
The Gullah/Geechee Sea Island Coalition and the Gullah/Geechee Sustainability Think Tank has remained focused on accomplishing the United Nations Sustainability Development Goals (UN SDGs) and continues to work with global partners to raise awareness via climate science in order to reverse the negative impacts of climate change on the Sea Islands of the Gullah/Geechee Nation. The risings seas and rising temperatures that are being witnessed have consistently been documented while the world’s scientists seek the answers to what human behaviors can be altered in order to bring these things back into alignment and cause the environment to be balanced and the earth to be healed.

Due to the massive financial losses due to COVID-19, the Gullah/Geechee Nation’s leaders are calling on all of our supporters to assist with contributing to and sharing the on-going “Gullah/Geechee Land & Legacy Fund” link during #GivingTuesday on May 5, 2020.

If we are taking a stand for land in order to keep Gullah/Geechee cultural heritage alive on it, it requires a significant intellectual, spiritual, and financial investment. So, as much as “Gullah/Geechee Famlee Day” is a fun raiser it is also a fundraiser. We call on all those celebrating “Gullah/Geechee Nation Appreciation Week” that truly appreciate the work that is on-going that allows us to still live on our coast and to keep our culture alive here to contribute to the “Gullah/Geechee Land & Legacy Fund”
Queen Quet of the Gullah/Geechee Nation Embarks on World Tour from Queen City to Queen’s Park
Queen Quet, Chieftess of the Gullah/Geechee Nation who was homegrown on historic St. Helena and Polowana Islands, SC in the Gullah/Geechee Nation has embarked on her annual world tour themed “Healin’ de Land.”

Although Hurricane Florence has long left the Gullah/Geechee Nation, the remnants of the massive down pours of rain and storm water still remain. Rivers are still rising through the Carolinas. Queen Quet, Chieftess of the Gullah/Geechee Nation (www.QueenQuet.com) and Founder of the Gullah/Geechee Sea Island Coalition (www.GullahGeechee.net) and the Wisdom Circle Council of Elders and Representatives of the Gullah/Geechee Nation have been coordinating emergency management and recovery efforts in collaboration with the Black Emergency Management Association (BEMA).

Contributing to the #GullahGeechee Culture for the Future
The achieving of the fundraising goals for these projects will assist the leaders of the Gullah/Geechee Nation with continuing the daily work that is done. This work exemplifies the Black Philanthropy Month theme for 2018 “For the Culture For the Future.”
Gullah/Geechee Queen Quet Gwine Back ta de UN
Sea level rise and other climate changes impacts are compounding the work to protect the Sea Island environment. Yet, Queen Quet is committed to this work daily. Queen Quet has successfully worked against offshore oil drilling and seismic gun use in the Atlantic Ocean and is actively engaged with global partners in reaching the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals. On September 25th 2015, countries adopted a set of goals to end poverty, protect the planet and ensure prosperity for all as part of a new sustainable development agenda. Each goal has specific targets to be achieved over the next 15 years and the Gullah/Geechee Nation is working to achieve these goals during the International Decade of People of African Descent. With your support, the Gullah/Geechee can insure that we have representation in the major planning and engagement activities to reach these goals and to insure that the Paris Agreement to protect the environment are achieved. Gullah/Geechee Sea Island Coalition Celebrates 20 Years with #GullahGeechee2020!
To celebrate 20 years at the premiere advocacy organization for Gullah/Geechee people worldwide, the Gullah/Geechee Sea Island Coalition will host twenty different events as a part of #GullahGeechee2020. These events will also be part of their continued celebration and commemoration of the International Decade of People of African Descent.
Fighting for Gullah/Geechee Land!
The Gullah/Geechee Sea Island Coalition has spent twenty years engaged in the battles to protect Gullah/Geechee land ownership and human rights. They have successfully gotten new zoning laws passed that protect Gullah/Geechee culture and assist Gullah/Geechee families with retaining their land ownership. They have successfully worked on laws to benefit heirs property owners. They have won legal cases that returned sacred grounds back over to Gullah/Geechee families and also prevented Gullah/Geechee towns from being destroyed in South Carolina, Georgia, and Florida.
Gullah/Geechee Seafood Festival & Famlee Day is a Celebration of Restoration and Recovery
The Gullah/Geechee Fishing Association, the St. Helena Community Market, All Mobile Productions™ (AMP™) and the Gullah/Geechee Sea Island Coalition invite you to a celebration to give thanks for the blessings GOD provided to St. Helena Island during and after the recent storms and over the many generations. Due to the damage to the Hunting Island State Park, the venue has been changed. The “Gullah/Geechee Seafood Festival and Famlee Day” will be held at the Dr. Martin Luther King Park on historic St. Helena Island, SC on Saturday, October 22, 2016 from Noon to 6 pm.
