“The decision to uphold the Beaufort Board of Zoning Appeals’ original decision to deny the building of an exclusive luxury resort on Bay Point is an outstanding way to conclude not only Oceans Month, but to also conclude a month that has been filled with celebrations of freedom for us in the Gullah/Geechee Nation,” said Queen Quet, Chieftess of the Gullah/Geechee Nation. “We have continued to fight for our sacred ancestral lands and the waters that surround us because these are the places that have allowed our families to be self-sufficient for generations and we want these places to remain safe and healthy for future generations to do the same.”
Groups Fire Back at Feds’ Move to Dismiss Plutonium Pit Lawsuit

Public interest groups shot back at the U.S. Department of Energy and the National Nuclear Security Administration’s attempt to suppress a lawsuit seeking a comprehensive environmental review of the agencies’ plans to produce large quantities of nuclear bomb cores, or plutonium pits, at DOE sites in New Mexico and South Carolina.

Rising Seas, Risings Temperatures and Rising Movement on the Sea Islands

The Gullah/Geechee Sea Island Coalition and the Gullah/Geechee Sustainability Think Tank has remained focused on accomplishing the United Nations Sustainability Development Goals (UN SDGs) and continues to work with global partners to raise awareness via climate science in order to reverse the negative impacts of climate change on the Sea Islands of the Gullah/Geechee Nation. The risings seas and rising temperatures that are being witnessed have consistently been documented while the world’s scientists seek the answers to what human behaviors can be altered in order to bring these things back into alignment and cause the environment to be balanced and the earth to be healed.

Gullah/Geechee Fishing Association Files a Motion Against Bay Point Destructionment

The Gullah/Geechee Fishing Association seeks to intervene in the appeal related to a developer’s plans to build a so-called “eco-resort” on Bay Point Island, a pristine and untouched barrier island at the mouth of Port Royal Sound. The Motion to Intervene was filed Wednesday by Gullah/Geechee Sustainability Think Tank members of the South Carolina Environmental Law Project (SCELP) on behalf of the Gullah/Geechee Fishing Association.
