At the first “Gullah/Geechee Nation Appreciation Night at MJ’s Soul Food,” the space was not short of Gullah/Geechees that came out to take part in the night of celebration nor was Queen Quet, Chieftess of the Gullah/Geechee Nation short of more messages to share. Pender County, NC mailed in its first proclamation for “Gullah/Geechee Nation Appreciation Week” which Queen Quet read as the event was preparing to get underway. Given the wording of this and several other proclamations, Queen Quet also elaborated on the details of the Gullah/Geechee Cultural Heritage Corridor national heritage area that runs through the Gullah/Geechee Nation so that all supporters will truly understand that coming to the Gullah/Geechee Nation encompasses that corridor which the US government declared in honor of the Gullah/Geechee living legacy as a mean to assist the Gullah/Geechees with self-empowerment in order to continue their culture and protect their land.
