Gullah/Geechee April Activities with Queen Quet

The Gullah/Geechee Nation always opens April in celebration since April 1st marks the anniversary of the first time Queen Quet, Chieftess of the Gullah/Geechee Nation took Gullah/Geechee human rights issues to the United Nations. This year, Queen Quet marked the day doing an environmental community engagement master class and then proceeded back on the road for her annual tour which lead her to the SC Read-in in Columbia and then to Myrtle Beach, SC.

The culmination of this outstanding event and weekend of celebration will take Queen Quet back down the South Carolina coast to present for “Ella Baker Day” at Coastal Carolina University in Conway on Monday, April 7, 2025:

She will host the #WaterSC team on historic St. Helena Island, SC at Penn Center‘s Frissell Community House on Tuesday, April 8, 2025 from 6 to 8 pm and invites everyone that is concerned about water resources in South Carolina to come out and provide input.

On April 19th at 10 am, meet Queen Quet, Bridgette Frazier and the rest of the founding members of the Bluffton Gullah Cultural Heritage Center for “Quilt Line Day” in Bluffton, SC and get a preview of what is coming at the new center. You will also be able to see the largest Gullah/Geechee bottle tree installation ever made.

On Earth Day, join Queen Quet and the Department of Natural Resources team for the dedication of the “Coosaw Sea Island Cotton Preserve” at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, April 22, 2025 at the preserve 250 Coosaw River Drive, Beaufort, SC 29907. Find out more about this historic event here:
