The inaugural National Adaptation Forum took place in Denver, Colorado. The concept of “adaptability” and “resilience” is now taking a national and international stage due to the environmental issues related to climate change. As these discussions take place and planning is done for the futures of communities, there are often segments of society that are left out of the dialogue and planning for the natural disasters and changes that are taking place. To address the issues of community equity, Queen Quet, Chieftess of the Gullah/Geechee Nation (www.QueenQuet.com) and Founder of the Gullah/Geechee Sea Island Coalition (www.gullahgeechee.net), Cara Pike of The Social Capital Project (www.thesocialcapitalproject.org), Ann Baughman of Fresh Water Future (www.freshwaterfuture.org), and Jacqueline Patterson of the Association for the Advancement of Colored People (www.naacp.org) were called upon to present.
This community engagement team created a circle of dialogue as a 3 hour training session. They will share some of this presentation as part of a FREE webinar that you can register for. You can also email GullGeeCo@aol.com if you would like to have a community engagement and/or adaptability training done in your community.
