Queen’s Chronicle: Journey to the Land of Queens and Pharaohs Part 1

For decades I envisioned myself in Kemet. I looked to this place and space as not only an origin point, but as a place of spiritual elevation. I, like millions of others, was intrigued by the things that tomb raiders and grave robbers removed from this sacred land to have it tour the world. I often wondered what else was released from those spaces along with the gold and how much of those artifacts where in the homes of those who simply sought to hold onto the treasures that African people people had created that still boggle scientific minds to this day? During the Afrocentric movement, I listened to analysis and lectures about Kemet and saw some of our people gravitate toward this place shrouded in mystery, wealth and beauty. Yet, those lectures were insufficient for fulfilling what was a goal that needed to be fulfilled-walking in the land of queens and pharaohs. I give thanks for finally reaching this land and being welcomed home.

I thought that this would be the first place that my feet would touch in the Motherland but GOD had another plan and process. So, this was not my first journey to this continent. I was determined that I had to reach this place in particular to see for myself where this center of spiritual and scientific power was and to hear from locals if they were aware of any of the things that altered the course of history. I wanted to meet the Nubians and to walk along the base of the pyramids and pour libation to honor those that once laid at rest here until people got curious and disturb their peace and remove them from their tombs. In some ways, one might see that as them truly having “life after death” since their literal bodies traveled to museums and had people study them and look at them. However, it feels that we could have life in this life if we instead studied the balance and lived by the balance in the 42 Laws of Ma’at which have been recently presented to the world by priestesses as the

The 42 Ideals of Ma’at

1) I honour virtue. 2) I benefit with gratitude. 3) I am peaceful. 4) I respect the property of others. 5) I affirm that all life is sacred. 6) I give offerings that are genuine. 7) I live in truth. 8) I regard all altars with respect. 9) I speak with sincerity. 10) I consume only my fair share. 11) I offer words of good intent. 12) I relate in peace. 13) I honour animals with reverence. 14) I can be trusted. 15) I care for the earth. 16) I keep my own council. 17) I speak positively of others. 18) I remain in balance with my emotions. 19) I am trustful in my relationships. 20) I hold purity in high esteem. 21) I spread joy. 22) I do the best I can. 23) I communicate with compassion. 24) I listen to opposing opinions. 25) I create harmony. 26). I invoke laughter. 27) I am open to love in various forms. 28) I am forgiving. 29) I am kind. 30) I act respectfully of others. 31) I am accepting. 32) I follow my inner guidance. 33) I converse with awareness. 34) I do good. 35) I give blessings. 36) I keep the waters pure. 37) I speak with good intent. 38) I praise the Goddess and the God. 39) I am humble. 40) I achieve with integrity. 41) I advance through my own abilities. 42) I embrace the All.

Ma’at represents order, balance, truth, reciprocity, harmony, righteousness, morality and justice. I have always been drawn to her imagery and was even more drawn when I found out the meaning behind it. These things coupled with love are sacred pillars in my life. When things and people are out of balance, order and truth do not follow. Where there is no truth, there cannot be harmony nor righteousness nor morality. There is always some form of reciprocity in the world concerning the energy that we put out whether we want to believe it or not. So, some would say then there is also always “just deserves” or justice in that sense of the word.

What greater place to seek justice could there be than to come to the place that provided us a guideline for how to live-Kemet? Where better to bring people of the world together but in the City of Peace at Sinai? Moses went up to Mount Sinai and I often asked theologians: “How do you know that he stayed on top of a mountain? Isn’t Kemet on the other side? If so, he could have gone where he was raised and brought back to the people these laws initially in long form, but after the frustration and destruction of the first tablets, the re-chiseling may have simply reduced these 42 laws to what we in Christianity call “The Ten Commandments.” I would receive everything from smiles and laughter to silence when I mentioned this. So, landing here in the land from whence this came allowed me to seek truth. My soul was affirmed when I could walk these sands and see the Red Sea and know more about the spiritual legacy of this part of the globe.

I pray that people haven’t arrived here to simply chat about climate change, but to actually take action. Many of these affirmations or ideals especially “taking only my fair share,” “I care for the earth.” and “I keep the waters pure.” would go a long distance in regard to climate action if people would live these things out. That would be easy if all of these ideals were central to our lives in every community. This would bring humanity into the world which would help heal Mother Earth. I am sure that she is ready so scream out her own affirmations at this point! Cuz de chillun sho ain da ack right tall tall!

As much as I join in with the interfaith community in praying for the world, I know that Biblical scripture states:

“If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land.” 2 Chronicles 7:14 KJV

Humbling, praying, seeking and turning are all action words. “Faith without works is dead.” So, there must be some work i.e. some action to move something over the distance on our part. We cannot simply sit in meetings on the Sinai Peninsula and await a sermon on the mount (especially not one stated from a politician), a new set of commandments nor Divine Intervention. GOD appears to be intervening through humans once again. The Called have to walk in and with purpose and intention even if it may seem like you are walking to the top of a mountain alone. You may actually get to the top and look down to find the place that with bring enlightenment to your soul and where you will connect with others of enlightenment that are working toward a better day.

I found myself overlooking the pyramids feeling this power emanating to and through me. The word “empowerment” took on an entirely new meaning when watching the sun rise and set in this land of queens and pharaohs. Many solely see a pyramid as a place of death whereas others see it as I do, as a place of healing energy and the apex as a location of higher consciousness. In the midst of the power of the sun above the apex of the pyramid, your energy is centered and balanced and your spiritual power is renewed. Renewal is what it is going to take to transmit this power and these ideals to the world because we must each seek transformation-“…be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.” (Romans 12:2b). It may just take coming to a land like this to be with others of like mind to find that renewal or it may simply take a moment of prayer and meditation as the sun sets not only over the pyramids or the Red Sea in Sinai, but over a sincere person that at the end of every day simply seeks to continue purposefully walking in all lands seeking order, balance, truth, reciprocity, harmony, righteousness, morality and justice. Wherever, the next steps take me, I pray as I do in our Gullah/Geechee Spiritual, “Walk with Me Lord!
