Help Protect de @GullahGeechee Land een Beaufort County, SC

Beaufort, SC is called “Beautiful Beaufort by the Sea.” This wonder filled county in the Gullah/Geechee Nation is home to historic St. Helena Island to which thousands come annually to experience the living Gullah/Geechee culture and support the historic sites on the Sea Islands. Beaufort County is primarily Sea Islands and is part of an environmentally sensitive cultural landscape that is not only within the national Gullah/Geechee Cultural Heritage Corridor, but is also home to the Reconstruction National Monument.

The endless richness of Beaufort County is found on the land and in the waterways surrounding it and that run through it. To insure that this culturally rich and aesthetically beautiful environment is sustained for future generations to enjoy and have a high quality of life in, the destructionment designs need to be curtailed. The land, water quality, and Gullah/Geechee culture need to all be protected in this outstanding area. To assist with that process, please make sure to do the following things:

1. Help Save Bay Point near historic St. Helena Island, SC. You can write letters to the Beaufort County Board of Zoning Appeals ahead of the meeting to be held at the Burton Wells Complex in Beaufort on Thursday, September 24, 2020 at 5 pm or bring your comments to this face-of-face public hearing and sign up to speak. You can also sign the petition in OPPOSITION to the plan to build a luxury resort on one of the final undeveloped Sea Islands in South Carolina: http://chng.it/gcmmgqFq

2. Help protect Daufuskie Island from having sand mined from the center of this historic Gullah/Geechee island. The destructioneer wants to be permitted to remove 5 acres of sand. Please write letters of opposition to the Beaufort County Board of Zoning Appeals ahead of the aforementioned September 24th meeting at which they will also hear from the public regarding Bay Point. 3. Be part of shaping the future of Beaufort County by taking the surveys related to the Beaufort County Comprehensive plan.
