Corona Chronicle 4-Let There Be Light

by Queen Quet, Chieftess of the Gullah/Geechee Nation (www.QueenQuet.com)

As I look out over the land on the Sea Islands of the Gullah/Geechee Nation, I appreciate the rains and even more, the sunshine. I recognize how it takes both to bring forth the abundant harvest from the many seeds that we planted in the ground to the natural healing herbs that still abound on their own and are sustaining us in the midst of all that is taking place in the world-a pandemic, tornados, and earthquakes.

When I emerge and go out to obtain essential items, I see the crowds of people filling up the newly expanded gardening areas of the home improvement centers and hardware stores. I see the people with carts full of plants that are not edible and I realize that even those that do not normally participate in landscaping or gardening are doing so now to simply brighten not only their yards and homes, but their lives. They are looking for light in the midst of what would feel like never ending darkness if you simply stay tuned to the news or social media all day everyday.

As I arose from my daily morning prayer and meditation, I proceeded to my study. As always, GOD led me to the words that I needed as I seek understanding of the shift that is underway. I was led to re-read something and to truly study it in the context of the urgency of the moment that we are living through. As Charles Filmore wrote in the early 1900s, “They must learn that they cannot possess and lock up that which belongs to GOD without themselves suffering the effects of sequestration.” I started seeing a mental split screen of the postings about depression and the foul and selfish protests by people with signs about oppression and slavery wherein these people have NO real concept of what slavery truly was and have no business diminishing the holocaust of people of African descent and equating it with pandemic stay-at-home orders. My mind quickly flashed on how GODless people would have to be to take to the streets with this type of inexcusable signage and behavior, but also how I know it was coming from the group that has done it. I predicted this when the first two weeks of lockdowns and stay-at-home orders were announced.

Charles Filmore enlightened me on why this people feel so entitled due to their privilege and how even though this should be a time of compassion for all people, they are more concerned about keeping their own individual routines. Meanwhile, Gullah/Geechee traditionalists are seeking ways to help those that don’t seem to grasp how important it is for our folks to stay at home and if you are going to get essentials and then to check on elders or other family members, you need to wear masks and stay outside while they are on the porch or the steps and chat and then go back home and resume your cleansing routine. We keep praying for the entire community and the world. Yes, we who are considered “land rich and cash poor” are still concerned that everyone has what they need to survive as a collective group and not just individually. Filmore stated “The poor man is not the greatest sufferer in this concentration of wealth, for he has not concentrated his faith in material things and chained his soul to them. Those who are rich in the things of this world are by their dependence on those things binding themselves to material things and are in material darkness.” He confirmed that I can see because I am seeking enlightenment and I am praying for so many others that are not doing the same.

I have prayed for and with many people throughout the pandemic and will continue to do so. I am praying that light will overtake the darkness that many people have spent their lives engulfed by and that has fallen over those listening to constant reports that overshadow their days. I pray that they will seek spiritual discernment about why they are here at this time and how they can assist in making the space around them light even with a positive action, a smile, with joy, with laughter, with reaching out to do something for someone other than self, and how that light can be sustained even once a vaccine comes.

I am standing in the sunshine absorbing as much Vitamin D and Spiritual Light as possible. Being absorbed and bathed in the light brings about more and more spiritual discernment. I am sure that it is this reason that today I was led to read:

“Spiritual discernment reveals that we are now in the dawn of a new era..and that new methods are waiting to be brought forth. In the coming commerce man will not be a slave to money.”

I am always about freedom and I am praying that the light is allowing us to see how way to it. Let there be light!

    Light, my light, the world-filling light,
    the eye-kissing light,
    heart-sweetening light!

    Ah, the light dances, my darling, at the center of my life;
    the light strikes, my darling, the chords of my love;
    the sky opens, the wind runs wild, laughter passes over the earth.

    The butterflies spread their sails on the sea of light.
    Lilies and jasmines surge up on the crest of the waves of light.

    The light is shattered into gold on every cloud, my darling,
    and it scatters gems in profusion.

    Mirth spreads from leaf to leaf, my darling,
    and gladness without measure.
    The heaven’s river has drowned its banks
    and the flood of joy is abroad.
    Poem By Rabindranath Tagore
