Gullah/Geechee Fishing Association Celebrates 10th Anniversary

De Gullah/Geechee Fishing Association that was founded by natives of St. Helena Island, SC in the Gullah/Geechee Nation on March 10, 2010 and was officially voted into existence on March 25, 2010.

De Gullah/Geechee Fishing Association members are proudly celebrating their 10th anniversary with two events in March as part of #GullahGeechee2020. On Monday, March 9, 2020 at 5 pm, they will celebrate the release of the documentary,

“Gullah/Geechee Gwine Fishin’.”

The screening and celebration will take place at the St. Helena Branch Library on historic St. Helena Island, SC.

On Saturday, March 21, 2020 from Noon to 3 pm, the members will do demonstrations and engagement sessions at “Gullah/Geechee Famlee Day at Port Royal Sound Foundation.” Chucktown Mobile Seafood will serve Gullah/Geechee cuisine, Naturally Geechee will have products on sale, and Queen Quet, Chieftess of the Gullah/Geechee Nation, GGFA secretary, will share from her new novels and children’s books which will be on sale. Anastatia Ketchens will sew sweetgrass items and lead an interactive drumming circle.
