@GullahGeechee Dayclean Soul Dr. Amir Jamal Toure Honored by the Community

Many that visit Savannah, GA are blessed by the opportunity to spend an exciting and unpredictable historic journey through the city with Dr. Amir Jamal Toure on the DayClean Journey (www.DayCleanSoul.com). Dr. Toure is a wealth of information regarding Pan Africanism and Gullah/Geechee culture and this wealth is shared freely on his tours and via his Dayclean de African Spirit presentations including during his annual appearance at “Juneteenth at the Jepson.”

Dr. Toure holds degrees in law and psychology, but he is a walking book of Black history. He is a professor at one of his alma maters, Savannah State University. He uses his respect for his culture and his passion for his community to do weekly broadcasts called “Gullah Observations” which are not only historic commentaries from different locations in the Gullah/Geechee Nation, but also consist of his involvement in protest to protect the civil, human, and land rights of the people of his home city, Savannah.

Dr. Toure’s family roots stem from Hilton Head Island, SC and from coastal Georgia. He was an inaugural Gullah/Geechee Nation Wisdom Circle of Elders member. So, the entire Gullah/Geechee Nation celebrated with him and Queen Quet, Chieftess of the Gullah/Geechee Nation (www.QueenQuet.com) as they continued to stand together at the “Black Excellence Ball.” Dr. Toure received the “Social Justice Award” and Queen Quet received the “Gullah/Geechee Gatekeeper Award.”
