Queen Quet, Chieftess of the Gullah/Geechee Nation is one of the Global Leaders at the United Nations COP 25 in Madrid, Spain

Global leaders have gathered in Madrid, Spain for the United Nations Climate Change Conference COP25 to take the next crucial steps in the UN climate change process.   The conference is taking place under the Presidency of the Government of Chile and is being held with logistical support from the Government of Spain.

Patricia Espinosa, Executive Secretary of UN Climate Change said: “This year, we have seen accelerating climate change impacts, including increased droughts, storms and heat waves, with dire consequences for poverty eradication, human health, migration and inequality.

“The world’s small window of opportunity to address climate change is closing rapidly. We must urgently deploy all the tools of multilateral cooperation to make COP25 the launchpad for more climate ambition to put the world on a transformational path towards low carbon and resilience,” she said. 

Queen Quet, Chieftess of the Gullah/Geechee Nation (www.QueenQuet.com) is among the global leaders that have answered the call to remain in the Paris Climate Agreement and to be part of the climate action.  She has made interventions throughout the first week of COP 25 with a specific focus on insuring that cultural heritage is not left out of the climate change, adaptation, and resilience planning that is done globally.  Her presentations were covered by   Gullah/Geechee TV (GGTV):

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1xobOY3BO48 is part of the introduction of the action plan for the new “Climate Heritage Network.”  Queen Quet was one of the presenters for the “Climate Heritage Mobilization” during the Global Climate Action Summit in 2018 which led to the launch of the new network in Scotland last month.  As part of the “Healin de Land World Tour,” Queen Quet was in the UK for the launch.  She has also presented for the United Nations at the Ocean Action Conference in Korea earlier this year.  COP 25 closes out her international journeys for the year, but does not close out her climate action work to protect the Gullah/Geechee Nation‘s coastal environment in order to insure the continuation of Gullah/Geechee culture there.

Just as the global audiences applauded Queen Quet’s interventions and presentations, the citizens of the Gullah/Geechee Nation applaud her leadership which is sending out ripples of progress from around the world.
