Gullah/Geechee: Living Black History

For decades academics and journalists have exploited and misrepresented Gullah/Geechee culture, history, and heritage and written of the demise of our people, language, and traditions or simply relegated us to a story of enslavement or entertainment.  Fortunately, in spite of the continued misrepresentations and inaccurate representations, Gullah/Geechee traditions keepers have continued to live their legacy on our land.

Each and every year, the leaders of the Gullah/Geechee Nation hosts a series of events to highlight accurate depictions of and presentations of the living cultural heritage of the Gullah/Geechee.  So, hunnuh ain hafa juss look pun disya fa Black History Month.  We binya and ain gwine nowhey afta e dun dun.  Hunnuh kin cum fa jayn we fa yeddi how de Gullah/Geechee live Black history!
