Queen Quet presents for International Conference of National Trusts
Queen Quet, Chieftess of the Gullah/Geechee Nation (www.QueenQuet.com) is featured in the Royal Gazette due to the fact that she will be a featured speaker during the International Conference of National Trusts in Bermuda. This will be the 50th Anniversary of the trust. The conference, titled “Arms Wide Open — Strategies for Engaging with Diverse Communities” has already attracted delegates to the conference from 32 countries — Aruba, Australia, Bermuda, Cameroon, Canada, Cayman Islands, Curaçao, France, Fiji, Guyana, India, Indonesia, Malawi, Nepal, Netherlands, Nigeria, Philippines, Russia, St Lucia, Saint Kitts and Nevis, Sierra Leone, South Korea, Sri Lanka, St Helena, Tanzania, Taiwan, Trinidad and Tobago, Uganda, Virgin Islands, United Kingdom, United States and Zimbabwe. Queen Quet looks forward to adding the Gullah/Geechee Nation‘s voice to this powerful array of global collaborators.
God bless you, Queen Quet. I only became aware of you today and I am thankful for you and your powerful and important work. My Geechee roots came from my mother. I am so grateful that she shared so many of her expressions and words with me. I want to share these with my grandchildren.

My mother was from a small country town: Hampton, South Carolina. Her family name was Rodd. I did a little research and found that my great grandmother and grandfather were Lottie and Adam Rodd. My mother’s father was Amos Rood and his wife was Matilda. I’m so glad that I can usually pick up a Geechee accent when I hear it. I didn’t learn until I was grown, where my mother’s accent came from. I love it when I find so many of my neighbors have Geechee roots. It fascinating to me. Thanks for letting me share.
You need to do research to find out the county and state that your family lineage stems from and we can tell you if you have headed in the right direction by contacting us in the Gullah/Geechee Nation.

I am proudly sharing and educating youth and families in the Maryland, Washington, DC area about Gullah culture as I am proud of our heritage and my experiences growing up there. I have featured you in my recent publication, Journey to the Sea Island: Gullah Geechie Good!, as Chieftess of Gullah Geechie Nation. My family in Bermuda informed me of your upcoming visit.
