Georgia Celebrates #GullahGeechee Nation Appreciation Week

The Coastal Empire and the Golden Isles are glowing from the richness of the Gullah/Geechee traditions, heritage, and culture that are being celebrated there again this year.  Chatham, Glynn, and Liberty Counties led the way in proclaiming “Gullah/Geechee Nation Appreciation Week” again this year!

Dr. Amir Jamal Toure, emeritus Gullah/Geechee Nation Wisdom Circle Council of Elders member stood proudly with Queen Quet, Chieftess of the Gullah/Geechee Nation (www.QueenQuet.com) to receive the proclamation in Savannah, GA.

He will operate Dayclean Journeys throughout the Georgia coast throughout the week of celebration to various points between Savannah, GA and southern points of southeastern Georgia.

Although the Chairman of the Liberty County Commission had to do a private presentation of the proclamation to Queen Quet this year in order for her to receive one in Glynn County on the same evening, there wasn’t any less support from his county.  Liberty County has the most per capita Black/Gullah/Geechee owned land in Georgia.  On that land stands several historic institutions that can be accessed by following the brown and white historic sites signs along Highway 17.

In Glynn County, the Gullah/Geechee Famlee that Queen Quet has marched with and celebrated numerous events were in the chambers for the proclamation presentation by the county commission.  Queen Quet pointed out how as the county continues to create its comprehensive plan, they need to also comprehend that Gullah/Geechee cultural heritage needs to be included in the planning process.  Tune een fa yeddi disya pun Gullah/Geechee TV:
