Beaufort Humanities Festival Highlights @GullahGeechee Culture

Discover Beaufort’s history and culture with the Humanities Festival June 9-11, 2016.  Be inspired, enriched and engaged with lectures, films and exhibits.  The Humanities Festival is an annual event sponsored by South Carolina Humanities and Beaufort, SC in the Gullah/Geechee Nation was selected to host the 2016 Festival.   Organizations from St. Helena Island, Beaufort, Bluffton, and Hilton Head Island will participate in the festival. Special events, lectures and tours will be presented by the organizations on Friday, June 10th and Saturday, June 11th.

Founder of the St. Helena Island based, Gullah/Geechee Sea Island Coalition, Queen Quet, Chieftess of the Gullah/Geechee Nation (www.QueenQuet.com) will provide a special Gullah/Geechee history of St. Helena tour through the landmark St. Helena Branch Library.   Tours will take place on Friday, June 10th between Noon and 2 pm and are FREE for all attendees.
