Queen Quet left a standing room only crowd at True Uhuru Books in North Charleston, SC on the first weekend in February to begin this week with residencies in South Carolina school districts. She has stopped at Johns Island’s Haut Gap Middle School and is currently presenting at several schools in the Florence County School District.   Queen Quet was one of 21 people chosen as “Black History Heroes” to be featured in the Florence news to begin this month, so the community is excited to see her come from the pages of the local paper and enter the doors of the educational institutions!

Queen Quet‘s next stop will be closer to home in Ridgeland, SC at New Road for Baptist Church a special Valentine’s Day program for the Gullah/Geechee elders at 3 pm.   She and De Gullah Cunneckshun will then proceed to the Leonard Auditorium at Wofford College in Spartanburg, SC to present on Wednesday, February 18th and 19th and to the Garner’s Ferry Adult Activity Center in Hopkins, SC at 5:30 pm on Friday, February 10th just outside the city of Columbia.   The final weeks of the month will bring Queen Quet home to the St. Helena Branch Library on her home island where she will continue the “Gullah/Geechee Read In” and will also present a lecture on February 25th at 6 pm and film showing for the community on February 28th at Noon.  All events will involve Gullah/Geechee interactive dialogues at the end of the presentations.  Queen Quet will also sign her newly released anthology, “WEBE Gullah/Geechee: Cultural Capital & Collaboration Anthology” along with her many other books, CDs, and DVDs that teach Gullah/Geechee history.

The Gullah/Geechee Sea Island Coalition (www.gullahgeechee.net) continues to sponsor Queen Quet & De Gullah Cunneckshun’s annual world tours in order to help educate people on the existence of the Gullah/Geechee culture and to provide the world with connections back to the Gullah/Geechee Nation.   As their motto states “Hunnuh mus tek cyare de root fa heal de tree.”  Queen Quet & De Gullah Cunneckshun are bringing people back to the roots of Black history in America with this journey and their presentations along the way.
