The final day of Kwanzaa is “imani” which means “faith.”  In the Gullah/Geechee Nation this is not just a principle to end or begin a year with, but it is something to walk by daily.

The day of Kwanzaa on which imani is celebrated happens to also be the “Emancipation Day” in the Gullah/Geechee Nation (www.gullahgeecheenation.com).  On this episode of Gullah/Geechee Riddim Radio, Queen Quet, Chieftess of the Gullah/Geechee Nation (www.QueenQuet.com) draws on materials from the Gullah/Geechee Alkebulan Archive to address the aftermath of enslavement and on Gullah/Geechee traditions to discuss how this unique indigenous community has used faith during and after enslavement to continue to exist.  Tune een fa yeddi:
