Gullah/Geechee Leaders Train the US Environmental Protection Agency on Community Engagement

The Gullah/Geechee Sea Island Coalition (www.gullahgeechee.net) has worked with the United States Environmental Protection Agency for over 16 years.  They have continued this partnership in order to gain more knowledge on how to protect and sustain the Sea Islands of the Gullah/Geechee Nation.   Queen Quet, Chieftess of the Gullah/Geechee Nation (www.QueenQuet.com), who is the founder of the Gullah/Geechee Sea Island Coalition, has not only presented for the US EPA at the Region 4 headquarters on more than one occasion, she has also engaged the agency in the work of the Gullah/Geechee Sustainability Think Tank.  As a result of the on-going collaborative efforts between the government of the Gullah/Geechee Nation and the US EPA, leaders of the Gullah/Geechee Nation were invited to be trainers at the Community Involvement Training Conference which was held in Boston, MA in July 2013.

Queen Quet, Chieftess, Elder Carlie Towne, Minister of Information, and Representative Glenda Simmons-Jenkins of the Gullah/Geechee Nation stand beneath themselves at their training session that they led for the US EPA.
