ASALH LIVING LEGACY AWARDS RECIPIENTS SELECTED

The Association for the Study of African American Life and History (ASALH) is pleased to announce the recipients of the Living Legacy Award to be presented at its 87^th Annual Black History Month Luncheon, February 23, 2013 at the Marriott Wardman Park Hotel in Washington, D.C.   On this occasion ASALH will announce the 2013 Black History theme – At the Crossroads of Freedom and Equality: The Emancipation Proclamation and the March on Washington.

Sponsored by ASALH’s long-time partner Farmers Insurance, the awards program was created in 2012, to feature the year’s Black History Month theme, Black Women in American History and Culture.  The twenty awards recipients include local, state, national, and international African American women who work to improve their communities, institutions, organizations and family life.

Woodson, the Association for the Study of African-American Life and History is the world’s oldest learned society devoted to the research, education and the status of culture and history of people of African descent.  Dr. Woodson is the recognized “father” of Black History.
